We are pleased to welcome Sara Harvey as one of our 2024 summer students. She recently received an Advanced Diploma in Applied Museum Studies from Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology. Completing the program with a placement at the Canadian Museum of History with their Order of Sport collection. Additionally, she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Carleton University where she completed a practicum with the Ingenium. Her interest in labour and work history is demonstrated by her research paper on the history of prison labour in Canada, specifically at Kingston Penitentiary; supplemented by a blog post that connected her research to specific pieces in the collection of the Kingston Penitentiary Museum. In the fall, Sara will be returning to Algonquin to take their Office Administration program.
Sara has worked at a variety of heritage institutions, including as a tour guide at Parkwood National Historic Site, cataloguing historic maps and documents at the Oshawa Public Library, and for the Oshawa Museum, where she inventoried a part of their collection, and helped set up pieces for their fall exhibits in 2022. Finally, her most recent job was at the Senate of Canada, in their Heritage and Curatorial Services department where she inventoried and assessed pieces from the collection and the Senate Chamber.
This summer, Sara will be working with our other summer student, Alexa Scroll, on photographing, cataloguing and digitizing all of the artifacts in the Workers’ History Museum collection. She is very excited to be here and learn more about the collection!
