Two exciting announcements were made at the Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity’s annual gala in Toronto on May 17th. They announced that they would open the world’s first 2SLGTQA+ museum in Ottawa, slated for 2021…and the Workers’ History Museum announced our intention to co-locate with them!

Co-location Committee chair Arthur Carkner was at the mike with Fred Hahn, head of CUPE Ontario, promising to leverage WHM’s years of experience as a content provider to achieve a high quality museum experience. Professors David Dean and Nick Hrynyk have been very involved, and as Prof. Hrynyk is heading up the curatorial team, we will be meeting over the summer.

We have committed to work on funding outreach to unions who have not yet committed to supporting the new museum. This is an exciting opportunity to finally achieve our long term goal of having a dedicated display space, and it will be adjacent to the War Museum, and be on a projected museum pathway linking other high profile cultural institutions.

The WHM Board hope we can count on your support in the coming years, and will be updating you as the various milestones are achieved.

Exciting times!
